The Perfect Playroom
When done wrong, a playroom can easily become the most stressful part of your home. So full of clutter, unwanted toys, and mess that nobody wants to set foot in it, much less play in it. I researched and experimented a lot with our playroom because I wanted it to be a fun, enjoyable, comfortable place where my girls can grow. Here are some of the best things I did that have made our playroom one of our favorite rooms in the house.
- It’s shouldn’t be overwhelming! It needs to be clean and organized. Shelves and bins are your best friends (they make it easy, I promise! All my favs are here or Ikea!) Keeping your playroom tidy keeps them from getting distracted, so they’re able to focus and keep their attention on one or two toys. Having a book bin, a block bin, a doll bin, etc… keeps things easy to put away and easy to find. Switching out toys often keep the playroom fresh and exciting for them, placing toys in hard to reach the area is an easy way to get them out of sight and but not forget about them! Y’all know I’m not a simple girl, I love color and excitement. There’s a way to do it so it doesn’t overstimulate and stress out your kids.
- Create a “YES” environment! This is a gift to your child and you. When a room is set up so that us mamas are constantly having to say “no,” it’s stressful for everyone. A yes environment is a place that is secure and childproof, meaning that they can do anything in that specific room! They can put blocks in the sand, spin around, and grab whatever. Everything in there is okay for them. There’s nothing they can hurt themselves on and no toy she can’t play with. I think this is so important, it makes the playroom comfortable for them and a place they want to be! It allows me to give them so independent time, too!
- Keep around toys that are appropriate for their developmental stage and stash the rest! Toys that are too easy don’t keep their interest and toys that are too hard make them feel defeated. Then those toys end up becoming just another thing to scatter on the floor. Put hard toys away until your child can use and understand them, and get rid of the easy stuff. See here to see what toys are best for your baby’s age. The right toys are perfect for independent play- keeping them entertained and giving you a moment to call a friend or unload the dishwasher!
I care so much about toys and playrooms because I believe they can help our babies become their best. There’s so much potential for learning and growth that is fun!! Being intentional with our babies and taking extra time to clean up and get the right stuff is so worth it. I just want the best for my girls and all of your children too!
